Why your product should be discoverable

In many markets, the physical product is barely distinguishable anymore: your competitor sells the same suitcase, bike, bag, or water bottle, often for virtually the same price. By adding traceability through the Apple Find My Network and the Google Find My Device Network, you can transform a standard product into a smart alternative that immediately stands out – both online and on the shelf.

The investment is often lower than expected. You don't need a proprietary app or complex IoT infrastructure: you rely on existing networks and apps your customers are already using. This keeps the additional cost per product manageable, while directly connecting your brand to powerful names like Apple and Google. That trust and connection are difficult for competitors to replicate.

Step 1 – Intake and feasibility analysis

Introductory call about product, brand, target audience, and volumes. We'll clearly map out the use cases: what needs to be traceable, in which situations, and for whom. Trag determines which network is most suitable – Apple Find My Network, Google Find My Device Network, or both – and provides a realistic estimate of the technical impact, lead time, certification, and costs.

Result: A clear go/no-go and a concrete proposal on how Trag can make your product smart and discoverable.

Step 2 – Integration concept and hardware design

Trag develops an integration concept that aligns with your product, brand, and existing production methods. Together with your team, we determine your requirements – for example, wireless charging or USB-C, integrated or removable, various shapes and sizes. We always do this in close consultation with your current manufacturer. Together, we determine the best position and design of the tracking system, ensuring seamless integration within the existing production process and supply chain.

Result: A coordinated integration concept that is technically sound and can be directly integrated into your current production and logistics, ready for prototyping.

Step 3 – Prototyping, testing and certification

Trag will deliver a fully functional prototype with tracking functionality and ship it to you in person, allowing you to test it for range, reliability, user experience, design, and robustness. Based on your feedback, we will optimize the system. Only after your approval will Trag begin the full certification process with Apple and/or Google, including all testing and documentation.

Result: A product approved and certified by you, ready for scale production.

Step 4 – Production integration, launch and further development

After certification, Trag delivers all production files to your production partner, along with the custom PCBA modules (track systems) that will be incorporated into the existing production process. You'll receive technical input for packaging, manuals, and end-user onboarding. After the first batches, we'll evaluate the results and jointly explore new variants, additional form factors, and further optimizations.

Result: A scalable smart version of your product, where Trag structurally takes care of the technical integration, tracking system, and certification.

Frequently Asked Questions

From what volumes is an integration interesting?

This depends on the complexity of the product and the desired cost level per unit. In practice, integration becomes attractive for significant production volumes, for example, starting at several thousand units per year. During the intake, Trag will prepare a concrete calculation.

How big is the tracking system and does it fit all products?

The tracking system itself is essentially no larger than the size of a credit card. Within that volume, we can create various shapes and layouts, allowing the system to be integrated into a wide variety of products: from smaller accessories to larger items like suitcases or bicycles.

Whether it fits your specific product depends on factors such as available space, wall thickness, material, and the desired charging method (e.g., wirelessly or via USB-C). In the feasibility analysis (step 1), we'll work with your team and your current manufacturer to determine if, where, and how the tracking system can be logically integrated into the product without unnecessarily altering the existing production process and supply chain.

How long does it take to go from idea to certified product?

Expect several months for design, prototyping, and testing, plus additional time for certification with Apple and/or Google. The exact turnaround time depends on the complexity of the product and the speed of decision-making. You'll receive a realistic schedule during the feasibility phase.

Does the existing product need to be modified?

In most cases, no major modifications are required to your product. However, space must be created to integrate the PCBA into the product. Together, we'll determine the best position so the module isn't in the way and remains easily accessible for charging. Charging can be done wirelessly or via USB-C, depending on your preference. In short, the required product modifications are kept to a minimum.

Does the product only work with Apple or only with Google?

A product can be developed and certified specifically for the Apple Find My Network, the Google Find My Device Network, or both. During the intake, we'll discuss which configuration best suits your target audience, positioning, and technical framework, so you make the right choice for your product line.

What does this mean for our cost price per product?

Integrating the tracker is expected to increase the cost per product by approximately USD 1.50 to USD 4.00. This depends on the purchase volume and the desired tracker functionality. This range only covers the component and integration costs; development and certification costs are additional. Trag will develop a business case for you that clearly outlines the impact on the cost price and the opportunities for premium positioning.

Does the intellectual property remain with us?

Your brand, product design, and brand positioning remain yours. Clear agreements are made for electronics, firmware, and integration agreements, so you know exactly which rights are held where.

Can we start small with one model or pilot series?

Yes. A pilot with one hero product is often the most logical first step to test the market before converting the entire collection.

Does Trag work with our existing manufacturer?

Yes. Trag connects to your existing supply chain. We advise your manufacturer on the optimal position and integration of the PCBA into the product, including mounting methods and ensuring the charging port remains accessible. Your manufacturer brings the product and production process knowledge, and Trag brings the tracker technology expertise. Together, we arrive at the best solution. Trag supplies the PCBAs, allowing your manufacturer to integrate them directly into their existing production process.

Why brands choose Trag as their integration partner

Experience with licensed products

Trag develops and sells products that officially run on the Apple Find My Network and the Google Find My Device Network. This means the entire process—from technical design to certification and market launch—has already been implemented. This proven knowledge, tools, and infrastructure aren't reinvented for your project, but are deployed directly to make your integration faster, more predictable, and more secure.

End-to-end approach, one point of contact

Instead of switching between separate parties for electronics, firmware, design, certification, and production, Trag provides you with a single technical point of contact. Design, prototyping, testing, certification, and production integration are all managed as a single process. This reduces the risk of miscommunication, shortens the lead time, and gives you a single partner responsible for the overall result.

Works with your existing partners

Trag doesn't replace your current partners, but stands alongside them. Your existing manufacturer, design studio, or R&D team remains the heart of your product. Trag provides specialized tracking systems, production files, and test procedures, and coordinates directly with your partners. This keeps your supply chain intact, while the product gains a smart, discoverable layer on top of what's already in place.

Designed for scalable production

A working prototype is one thing, a solution that can be smoothly produced in thousands of units per year is another. Trag designs from the ground up with mass production, quality assurance, and cost in mind. PCB layout, component selection, test jigs, and final inspection are designed so that your manufacturer can efficiently assemble, test, and ship without unnecessary complexity on the production line.

Honest feasibility assessment

Not every integration is worthwhile. Sometimes the available space is too limited, the equipment is unsuitable, or the business case is too weak. Trag calculates these issues early on and is transparent about them. If the integration doesn't make technical or economic sense, you'd rather hear about it in the first week than after months of work. This prevents you from wasting time and budget on a solution that will never become profitable.
